Initially starting from the 16th century in England, the game has grown to be one of the world's most popular sports,with the worldwide tournament held after every four years. There are around 20 to 25 nations participating in the World Cup tournament with some nations leading the matches for years. England, India, Australia, South Africa, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, West Indies are some of the most popular cricketing nations.
Children and youth of these nations dream of being world class cricketers as their main profession. Being a favorite past time sport, cricket is a street as well as an elite game played by young and old. The game itself is fairly simple. There are two batsmen, and one bowler, with 11 fielders. The bowler bowls the ball and the batsmen has to hit the ball hard at a distance and make a long distance run in order to score a point, most generally known as a "run". While the batsmen are running and exchanging posts, the fielders have to catch the ball as soon as possible and hit it on the wicket stand. If the ball touches the wicket stand before the player reaches it, he is "out" and disqualified from the game. Even while batting, if the ball is caught directly, the batsman is considered out.
